About
Mary Linn Beller was an American actress born in Brooklyn on March 1, 1933, the daughter of Samuel and Helen Beller. She pursued formal training from an early age, studying at the Heckscher Foundation and the Neighborhood Playhouse in Manhattan beginning at age 9, and later attended Midwood High School, Bennington College, and Columbia University School of General Studies.
Beller's professional career began in radio at age 12, when her first credited role consisted of a giggle on the radio version of Our Miss Brooks. She went on to portray Babby on The Brighter Day and appeared on additional radio programs including Let's Pretend and School of the Air.
Her stage career began in summer stock at age 16, when she took the ingenue lead in You Can't Take It With You. Additional summer stock work preceded a six-week tour of Leaf and Bough, which transferred to Broadway for three performances. She also appeared on Broadway in Have I Got a Girl for You!, with her Broadway career spanning from 1949 to 1963.
Beller extended her work in The Brighter Day to television, continuing her role as Babby in the television adaptation of the series. On television she also played Judy Foster, the title character in A Date with Judy, and Connie Thayer, referred to as the "little sister," on The First Hundred Years. Her additional television credits included Escape, Silver Theatre, and Starlight Theatre.
In September 1954, Beller married business executive Robert L. Pitofsky and was subsequently known as Lynne Pitofsky. She died on April 13, 2000, at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut.
