Mary Gordon Murray, born November 13, 1953, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, is an American actress and singer whose career has spanned Broadway, television, and film. Raised in nearby Fair Lawn, she attended and graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy before pursuing a career in performance. She is a faculty member of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Murray's Broadway career began in 1976 with the revival of The Robber Bridegroom, and she continued to accumulate credits across more than four decades, with her final Broadway appearance in 2016. Among her stage work are productions including Grease, I Love My Wife, Play Me a Country Song, Coastal Disturbances, Into the Woods, Footloose, Hands on a Hardbody, Cabaret, and Three Tall Women. Her most prominent Broadway role came in the 1982 musical Little Me, for which she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Off-Broadway, she was part of the original 1983 production of A... My Name Is Alice. In 1991, her performance in The Most Happy Fella earned her a Drama-Logue Award.
Murray's television work has been equally extensive. From August 1979 to May 1985, she played Becky Lee Abbott on the ABC daytime soap opera One Life to Live as a regular cast member, later returning for guest appearances in 1986, 1988, 1996, 1998, and during a five-episode run from November 15 to 19, 2001. She held recurring roles on both L.A. Law and Quantum Leap, and made guest appearances on Kate & Allie, Matlock, Civil Wars, Melrose Place, Murder She Wrote, Murphy Brown, The Drew Carey Show, Jack & Bobby, Cold Case, Bones, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and Nip/Tuck.
Her film credits include Poison Ivy (1992), Born Yesterday (1993), Junior (1994), Evolver (1995), DC 9/11: Time of Crisis (2003), and Face 2 Face (2016).
