Mary Bond Davis is a singer, actor, and dancer born on June 3, 1958, in Los Angeles, California. Her Broadway career spans from 1988 to 2002, with her most recognized stage role being Motormouth Maybelle in the 2002 Broadway production of Hairspray.

Davis began performing at the age of 15, singing with various bands. From 1974 to 1976, she was a member of The Young Americans, during which time she appeared with the group on The Bing Crosby Christmas Show. In 1980, she auditioned for a touring production of Ain't Misbehavin', which traveled throughout the United States and Canada, and in 1982 she spent a year with the world tour of the same show.

Her Broadway credits include the original casts of Mail, Jelly's Last Jam, Marie Christine, and Hairspray, as well as The Old Women. Davis is a three-time winner of the Drama-Logue Award, earning the recognition for her work in Get Happy, Shout Up A Morning, and A...My Name Is Alice.

Davis has also maintained a film career alongside her stage work. Her appearance in Eddie Murphy's Coming to America stands as one of her most recognized film roles. Additional film credits include Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling; The Art of Dying; Hook; Jeffrey; New York Minute; and Romance and Cigarettes.
