About
Marvin Felix Camillo (1937–January 22, 1988) was an American theater director and actor born in Newark, New Jersey. He died in La Rochelle, France, at the age of 51.
Camillo made his Broadway debut in 1960 in The Cool World. He went on to direct Short Eyes in 1974, a production that earned him the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Director that same year.
Beyond his Broadway work, Camillo founded The Family, a New York-based theater company whose membership consisted largely of ex-convicts. His engagement with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals extended internationally; a 1986 article he co-authored with Soodabeh Khosropur, published in The Prison Journal, examined the work of The Family Theatre in France under the title "Cultural Exchange in the Correctional Milieu."
