Mark Edward Womack is an English actor born on 9 January 1961 in Liverpool, where he grew up as the eldest child of Frances, née Dean, and Tom Womack. He has a younger brother and sister. He attended high school in Childwall, Liverpool, before training at RADA in London.
Womack built his screen profile through a range of film and television work, earning recognition for his roles in Liverpool 1, Sorted, and Willy Russell's Dancin thru' The Dark. In 2020, he joined the cast of the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, portraying DI Mark Malone. His Broadway career includes an appearance in the 2002 production of La Bohème.
Born the eldest of three children, Womack married Mary Therese McGoldrick in 1995; the couple had one son before divorcing in 1997. He subsequently entered a relationship with his Liverpool 1 co-star Samantha Janus, whose own marriage ended in divorce in 1998. Womack and Janus married on 16 May 2009 and have two children together. In August 2020, Janus publicly disclosed that she and Womack had separated in 2018, though the two continued to share a home with their children.
