About
Mark Setlock is an American actor and playwright born on June 26, 1968, in Cleveland, Ohio. He trained at the Institute for Advanced Theater Training of the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University and has been based in New York City.
Setlock participated in the 1994 workshop of Rent and went on to perform with the Original Broadway Company of the show in 1996. His stage work extended well beyond Broadway, encompassing productions in Los Angeles, Boston, Portland, Oregon, the Bay Street Theatre, and London's West End. For his solo performance in Fully Committed, which he helped develop alongside playwright Becky Mode, Setlock received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Solo Performance in 2000. That same year he won the Outer Critics Circle Award for best solo performance, sharing the honor in a tie with Olympia Dukakis.
As a playwright, Setlock collaborated with Steve Murray on an adaptation of the film It's a Wonderful Life titled This Wonderful Life, which had its premiere in Portland, Oregon, in 2005 and subsequently received regional productions. He also co-authored Pageant Play, a satire centered on the world of child beauty pageants, written with Matthew Wilkas. The piece was produced at the Berkshire Theatre Festival in July 2008.
His New York stage credits include The Last Sunday in June, Roulette, Tea and Sympathy, The Safety Net, and Never Tell. On television, Setlock appeared in Law and Order, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, and All My Children. His film work includes New Suit, Life in Flight, and Gangster's Crib.
