About
Mark Feuerstein is an American actor born on June 8, 1971, in New York, New York. The son of Audrey, a school teacher, and Harvey Feuerstein, a lawyer, he was raised in a Jewish family and celebrated his Bar Mitzvah in an Orthodox synagogue. A competitive wrestler in high school, he won the state championship. Feuerstein attended the Dalton School before graduating from Princeton University in 1993. He subsequently won a Fulbright scholarship, which took him to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and later to École Philippe Gaulier in France, where he studied under Philippe Gaulier.
Feuerstein made his Broadway debut in 1997 in The Last Night of Ballyhoo. His early television work included a recurring role on the NBC sitcom Caroline in the City, in which he played the title character's boyfriend. He went on to star in three additional NBC sitcoms: Fired Up, Conrad Bloom, and Good Morning, Miami. His television guest appearances during this period included Ally McBeal in 2000 and Once and Again from 2000 to 2001. He also attracted attention through a guest appearance in the Season 2 Sex and the City episode "They Shoot Single People, Don't They?", in which he played an ophthalmologist named Josh opposite Cynthia Nixon's character Miranda. Feuerstein has publicly stated that the role is his most-hated performance.
His film work began with Practical Magic in 1998, and it was through that film that director Nancy Meyers came to cast him in What Women Want in 2000, after her daughter recognized him from the earlier project. Additional film credits include In Her Shoes in 2005 and Defiance in 2008. Feuerstein also filmed scenes opposite Sandra Bullock in Two Weeks Notice in 2002, reuniting with his Practical Magic co-star, though his scenes were ultimately cut from the released film.
On television, Feuerstein had a recurring role as a lawyer in Season 3 of The West Wing, returning in the same capacity in Season 6, with the series running from 2001 to 2005. He was named one of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 2003. Beginning in January 2009, he appeared in the web series The Hustler on Crackle. That same year he took on the lead role in the USA Network series Royal Pains, a position he held from 2009 to 2016. In spring 2017, he appeared as rogue CIA operative Jacob Ness in the Fox revival of Prison Break. That same year he also appeared in Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later and Nurse Jackie in 2015.
Feuerstein co-created the CBS sitcom 9JKL with his wife, television writer Dana Klein, and also co-produced and starred in the series, which debuted in October 2017 and was canceled after one season in May 2018. In 2022, he received a Children's and Family Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Performance for his work on the Netflix series The Baby-Sitters Club. Feuerstein and Klein, whom he married in 2005, live in Los Angeles and have three children: Lila, Frisco, and Addie.
