About
Marion Marshall (June 8, 1929 – September 24, 2018) was an American actress whose career spanned stage, film, and television. Born in 1929, she went on to work across multiple entertainment mediums before her death at age 89 at a retirement community in Missoula, Montana.
Marshall's stage work included Broadway appearances in 1947, when she performed in three Shakespeare productions: Hamlet, The Merchant of Venice, and As You Like It. That same year marked her entry into film, with uncredited appearances in two 20th Century Fox productions, Gentleman's Agreement and Daisy Kenyon. Over the following two decades, she accumulated credits in more than 25 films, many of them in minor roles, with her film work continuing through 1967.
Among her more prominent film appearances was a supporting role in I Was a Male War Bride (1949), in which she played the best friend of Ann Sheridan's leading character. She also appeared in three comedy films starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis — The Stooge, Sailor Beware, and That's My Boy — receiving featured billing in each. On television, Marshall guest starred twice on Perry Mason in 1959, portraying murderer Irene Bedford in "The Case of the Shattered Dream" and title character Ginny Hobart in "The Case of the Spurious Sister."
Marshall married three times. Her first husband was cameraman Allen Davey. In 1950 she was engaged to director Howard Hawks, though no marriage took place. She subsequently married director Stanley Donen on May 20, 1952; the marriage lasted until 1959 and produced two sons, Peter and Joshua. On July 21, 1963, following a 20-month engagement, she married actor Robert Wagner in New York City. The couple had one daughter, Katie, before divorcing in 1971. Following Marshall's death, Wagner paid tribute to her on social media.
