About

Mario Majeroni (1870–1931) was an Italian-born American actor, playwright, and performer who worked across stage and film. Born in Sardinia, he was the son of Eduardo and Giulia Majeroni, and through his mother was connected to Italian theatrical heritage: Giulia was a niece of the celebrated nineteenth-century Italian actress Adelaide Ristori. Majeroni's brother George, known also as Giorgio Majeroni, was likewise a stage and film actor, born in Australia seven years after Mario.

Before arriving in the United States, Majeroni lived and worked in Australia, where his parents operated a dramatic company recognized for staging one of the earliest theatrical adaptations of For the Term of His Natural Life. While in Sydney, he married Nellie Harbin on September 20, 1899. Harbin died at Sydney Hospital on September 20, 1906, the same day Majeroni was in New York performing in The Prince of India on Broadway. He had come to the United States in 1906 and began his Broadway career that year, going on to appear on the New York stage from 1907 through 1931. Among his Broadway credits were At Bay, in which he starred, as well as Cynara, Miracle at Verdun, and Stripped.

In 1914, Majeroni expanded his career into silent films while continuing his stage work. He appeared alongside many prominent silent film performers of the era, with credits including The Nightingale (1914), The Dictator (1915), Sherlock Holmes (1916), Less Than the Dust (1916), Enemies of Women (1923), and Her Love Story (1924), among numerous others. His final film was Rubber Heels (1927), a Paramount production in which he appeared with Chester Conklin. Majeroni did not transition to sound films, preferring Broadway to talkies.

Majeroni died in New York in November 1931 while actively performing in a stage production. He is buried in an actor's plot at Kensico Cemetery.
