About

Marine Jahan is a French actress and dancer born on September 17, 1958, in Versailles, France. She became widely recognized in the United States for her work as one of the dancing body doubles for Jennifer Beals in the 1983 film Flashdance.

Jahan's contribution to Flashdance generated significant controversy upon the film's release. Close-ups throughout the film that appeared to show Beals were in fact footage of Jahan, yet her participation went uncredited in both the opening and closing titles. When her involvement became public knowledge after the film had already become a hit, audiences expressed frustration at having watched Jahan's dancing and bicycle riding without being informed. Producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer initially stated they had not intended to hide the use of doubles, later attributing the absence of credits to Paramount Pictures having shortened the closing credits.

Following Flashdance, Jahan appeared as a dancer in the 1984 film Streets of Fire, performing at a venue called Torchie's bar. In 1985, she worked with the Italian broadcaster RAI on the program Il tastomatto. Her connection to Flashdance extended further when she served as the movement model for the character Snoopy in the Peanuts television special It's Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown, with her dance moves captured through rotoscoping. In 1986, she guest-appeared on the television program The Wizard in the role of a paralyzed dancer. The following year, in 1987, Jahan performed as the featured halftime dancer at Super Bowl XXI during a Flashdance... What a Feeling number.

Jahan's Broadway career includes a 1997 appearance in The Scarlet Pimpernel, in which she played the role of Madame St. Cyr.
