About

Marina Squerciati is an American actress born in New York City, of Italian heritage on her mother's side. She is the daughter of academic and writer Marie Squerciati. Squerciati graduated from Northwestern University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in theater.

Squerciati made her Broadway debut in 2008 in an adaptation of Ernst Lubitsch's To Be or Not to Be, directed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw. Her off-Broadway work includes performances in Manipulation, Beauty of the Father, and Just in Time: The Judy Holliday Story at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, where she played Judy Holliday and received the Agnes Moorehead Award for that performance. She originated the role of Kerri Taylor in the a cappella musical comedy Perfect Harmony and was a member of the performance group The Essentials.

Her screen career began with a childhood appearance in the 1993 film The Nutcracker, directed by Emile Ardolino. Squerciati made her feature film debut in It's Complicated in 2009, the same year she first appeared on television in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She subsequently took on guest roles in The Good Wife, Damages, Blue Bloods, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2010 and 2011, before appearing in an eight-episode arc during the fifth season of Gossip Girl in fall 2011. In 2012, she appeared in Alter Egos and Frances Ha, and also starred in the indie film Sparks, based on the comic series by William Katt. In 2013, she guest starred on the FX series The Americans as a Soviet spy.

In August 2013, Squerciati was cast as Officer Kim Burgess in Chicago P.D., a spin-off of Chicago Fire. The series premiered on January 8, 2014, and Squerciati's character was eventually promoted to Detective Kim Burgess. The show's seventh season premiered on September 25, 2019, and on February 27, 2020, NBC announced renewals for an eighth, ninth, and tenth season.

Squerciati is married to attorney Eli Kay-Oliphant. She announced her first pregnancy via Twitter on February 15, 2017, and gave birth to a daughter in May of that year. She announced a second pregnancy via Instagram on December 31, 2024. In September 2019, court documents alleged that Squerciati was the child of the late financier John R. Jakobson, who was also the father of actress Maggie Wheeler, and that supporting documents indicated Jakobson had paid for Squerciati's nanny, child support, and tuition at Dalton School and Northwestern University.
