About

Marina Mstislavovna Neyolova, born on 8 January 1947, is a Soviet and Russian actress whose career spans both stage and screen. Since 1974, she has been a leading actress at the Sovremennik Theatre in Russia, and her film work encompasses more than 37 titles dating back to 1969.

Neyolova brought her stage work to New York during the 1996–1997 Broadway season, appearing in three productions. She starred in Into the Whirlwind and also took part in performances of The Cherry Orchard and The Three Sisters during that same period.

Her film career began in the late 1960s with An Old, Old Tale, in which she played a princess and the daughter of an innkeeper. Through the 1970s she took on a range of roles, including Valentina Kostina in Speech for the Defence, Alla Mikhailovna Yermakova in the 1979 film Autumn Marathon, and Stesha in With You and Without You. She also portrayed Elizabeth I in the 1972 adaptation of The Prince and the Pauper. Among her voice work, she provided the voice of Alice in the 1981 Soviet animated Alice in Wonderland, a role she reprised in the 2010 Russian dub of the Tim Burton film and again in the 2016 sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass, voicing the character Mallymkun, the Dormouse, in both.

Later screen credits include Dear Yelena Sergeyevna, in which she played the title character, Anna Andreyevna in the 1996 film Inspector, and a role in Nikita Mikhalkov's The Barber of Siberia in 1998. Her most recent film credit is the 2017 production Thawed Carp, in which she played Yelena Mikhailovna Nikiforova. In 1987, Neyolova was awarded the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR in recognition of her contributions to Russian performing arts.
