About

Marie Saxon, born Pauline Marie Landry on in Lawrence, Massachusetts, was an American actress whose career spanned vaudeville, Broadway musical theatre, and film. She was born in 1904 into a family with deep roots in the entertainment industry; her mother, Pauline Saxon, was a vaudeville comedienne, and her father, Daniel Landry, worked as a theatre manager.

Saxon began pursuing a career in musical theatre at the age of 15. Her earliest professional work was in vaudeville, where she performed alongside her mother in an act billed as the Saxon Sisters. That foundation in vaudeville led to a sustained presence on the Broadway stage, where she appeared in musicals between 1923 and 1928.

Her Broadway credits included Battling Buttler (1923), My Best Girl, Merry, Merry (1925), The Ramblers (1926), and Ups-A-Daisy (1928). In addition to her stage work, Saxon appeared in film, with her screen credits including The Broadway Hoofer (1929).

On May 31, 1924, Saxon married Sidne Silverman, the publisher of Variety. The entertainment trade publication had been founded by his father, Sime Silverman. Together, Marie and Sidne had a son, Syd Silverman, and the family made their home in Harrison, New York. Saxon died in Harrison on November 12, 1941, at the age of 37.
