About
Marian Carr, born Marion Dorice Dunn on July 6, 1926, in Providence, Kentucky, was an American actress whose career spanned film, television, and Broadway. She is sometimes credited as Marion Carr. Carr died on July 30, 2003, in Palm Desert, California.
During her adolescence, Carr relocated with her family to Chicago, Illinois, where she attended Austin High School. Following graduation, she held office work and modeling jobs in Chicago. In 1946, she was recognized as "Chicago's Prettiest Office Worker" after being spotted by a talent scout. That same year, she moved to Los Angeles, began performing in local theater productions, and signed a film contract with RKO Pictures under Howard Hughes.
Carr made her feature film debut in San Quentin in 1946, and that same year appeared in a minor role in Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life. She went on to lead roles in Westerns including The Devil Thumbs a Ride (1947) and Northern Patrol (1953). Following a divorce from Frederick Levy, an executive for Blum Candy whom she had married and with whom she had a son in 1952 while residing in San Francisco, Carr returned to acting with supporting roles in Ring of Fear (1954) and two films directed by Robert Aldrich: World for Ransom (1954) and Kiss Me Deadly (1955), in which she portrayed the sister of a mobster. She subsequently appeared in Indestructible Man, Ghost Town (1956), and Nightmare (1956), which marked her final feature film appearance.
Carr's stage career brought her to Broadway, where she performed between 1954 and 1962. Her Broadway credits include Seidman and Son and The King and I. In 1958, she married television producer Lester Linsk; that marriage ended in divorce in 1966. She later married Francis Jerome Mason.
