About
Margaret Severn (August 14, 1901 – July 7, 1997) was a dancer whose career spanned Broadway and film. Her Broadway appearances took place between 1919 and 1920, with credits including the musical Linger Longer Letty and the revue The Greenwich Village Follies.
Severn became particularly associated with mask-based performance, employing more than a dozen different Benda masks in the Greenwich Village Follies of 1921. In 1922, she appeared on screen in the film The Good Provider, in which she played a dancer.
Her work in dance and mask performance was later documented in the film Dance Masks, directed by Peter Lipskis. The film was distributed by the University of California, Berkeley Extension Media Center and received a review from Choice.
