About

Margaret Breen (February 3, 1907 – December 5, 1960) was an American actress who worked in both stage and film. Born in Missouri, she came from a theatrical family in which ten of her eleven siblings, including Nellie Breen, pursued careers in show business. Breen herself began performing at the age of four.

Breen's Broadway career spanned from 1923 to 1931. She appeared in two editions of George White's Scandals, performing in the 1923 production from June 18 through November 10 and returning for the 1924 edition, which ran from June 30 through December 13. In 1925 she appeared in The Passing Show before taking on the role of Helga in Princess Flavia, which ran from November 2, 1925 through March 13, 1926. The following summer she performed in the revue The Merry World, which played from June 8 through August 21, 1926. She then joined the cast of Peggy-Ann, playing Patricia Seymour in a run that extended from December 27, 1926 through October 29, 1927. Her final Broadway credit was Simple Simon, in which she played Elaine King during its March 1931 engagement.

Alongside her stage work, Breen appeared in several short films in the early 1930s. Her screen credits include the 1930 feature Heads Up, in which she played Mary Trumbull, as well as three short films from 1931: It Might Be Worse, in which she played Ethel; The Tamale Vendor; and Selling Shorts, in which she played a character billed as The Girl.

In 1931 Breen married Art Hamburger, a miner and millionaire. The couple settled in Plymouth, California, and had a son and a daughter during the 1930s. Breen died in California on December 5, 1960.
