About

Marcie Dodd is an American musical theatre actress born on March 10, 1978, in Yuba City, California. The third of four children, she grew up in a household shaped by her father's work as an agricultural consultant and her mother's career as a piano teacher. Dodd began her post-secondary education at Bethany College in Santa Cruz County, California, where she studied music from 1997 to 1999, before transferring to Azusa Pacific University and completing her degree in 2001.

Following graduation, Dodd joined Disneyland as a singing princess, spending three years performing as Belle and Snow White. It was during this period that she met her future husband, Colin Follenweider, a Hollywood stunt double; the couple have two children together. Her first role outside of Disney came as Sandy in a regional production of Grease. She subsequently took on understudy positions in the Las Vegas productions of We Will Rock You and Hairspray before her career became closely associated with the musical Wicked.

Dodd entered the Wicked company on December 5, 2006, joining the ensemble of the Emerald City Tour while also understudying Elphaba and Nessarose. She first performed Nessarose at a matinee on March 25, 2007, in Miami, Florida, and made her debut as Elphaba at a matinee on April 7, 2007, in Houston, Texas. Her time with the first national touring company concluded on December 2, 2007, in Hartford, Connecticut.

Shortly after departing the tour, Dodd replaced Jenna Leigh Green as the principal Nessarose in the Los Angeles sit-down production, with her first performance in that role taking place on December 13, 2007. When cast member Courtney Corey was injured, Dodd temporarily covered Elphaba from late March to early May 2008, first performing the role in Los Angeles on April 22, 2008. On May 13, 2008, she transitioned to standby for Elphaba following Teal Wicks's promotion to full-time lead, while Briana Yacavone assumed the principal Nessarose role. Dodd departed the Los Angeles company on October 26, 2008, with Vicki Noon succeeding her as Elphaba standby.

Dodd made her Broadway debut on November 11, 2008, at the Gershwin Theatre, replacing Kerry Ellis in the lead role of Elphaba. Her Broadway engagement, which ran through January 11, 2009, when Nicole Parker replaced her, marked a significant distinction: Dodd became the first actress to have performed the principal roles of both Elphaba and Nessarose in the Wicked franchise. Her Broadway credit falls within the verified period of her activity on Broadway from 2003 to 2009.

After her Broadway run, Dodd originated the role of Elphaba on the Munchkinland Tour, which began performances on March 7, 2009, and officially opened on March 12. She remained with that touring company until April 4, 2010, again succeeded by Vicki Noon. Dodd then joined the San Francisco sit-down production on June 29, 2010, replacing Eden Espinosa as Elphaba and performing alongside Alli Mauzey as Glinda. She stayed with the production through its closing night on September 5, 2010.
