Marcia Jean Kurtz is an American actress and director working in film, stage, and television, born on February 11, 1942, in the Bronx, New York. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in dance from the Juilliard School in 1964.
Kurtz's Broadway career spanned three decades, from 1970 to 2000, and included appearances in The Chinese, Execution of Justice, and Taller Than a Dwarf. Her stage work extended beyond Broadway to Off-Broadway productions, where she earned significant recognition. She won an Obie Award for her portrayal of Doris in Donald Margulies' The Loman Family Picnic. Her performance in Martin Sherman's When She Danced brought her nominations for both an Obie Award and a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play, the latter in 1990. Kurtz has also worked as a director, helming productions of Matty Selman's Uncle Phillip's Coat and Evan Handler's Time of Fire.
Her film credits include The Panic in Needle Park, In Her Shoes, and Big Fan. She appeared as Miriam Douglas in both Dog Day Afternoon and Inside Man. On television, Kurtz has made multiple appearances on the series Law & Order.
