About
Marc Breaux (November 3, 1924 – November 19, 2013) was an American performer, choreographer, and occasional film director born in Carencro, Louisiana. He is best known for his choreographic work on musical films of the 1960s and 1970s, much of it created in collaboration with Dee Dee Wood, to whom he was married for many years. A significant portion of his recognized choreographic output also involved partnerships with the songwriting team the Sherman Brothers.
Breaux's Broadway career spanned from 1948 to 1959. He made his Broadway debut in 1948 as a member of the original cast of Kiss Me, Kate, which played at the New Century Theatre in New York City. He subsequently appeared in The Barrier and starred in Catch a Star! before taking on a role in the musical Li'l Abner, which ran at the St. James Theatre in 1958. His final Broadway performing credit came with the musical Destry Rides Again in 1959. After his years as a performer, Breaux transitioned to choreography, collaborating with Dee Dee Wood on the Broadway musical Do Re Mi, which ran from 1960 through 1962.
Following health issues in the late 1970s, Breaux shifted careers entirely, joining ex-producer Nick Vanoff at Vanoff's Hollywood post-production company, Complete Post. He worked there as a videotape operator for nearly two decades before retiring in the mid-1990s. Breaux died on November 19, 2013, at the age of 89.
