About
Mandy Ingber, born January 11, 1968, is a yoga instructor, New York Times bestselling author, and former actress, sometimes credited under the name Amanda Ingber. She was born into a Jewish family, with an American-born father and a German-born mother, and was introduced to yoga by her father in 1975.
Ingber launched her acting career as a member of the original company of Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs on Broadway in 1983, a production that went on to win the Tony Award. Following her stage work, she appeared in a number of television roles. She portrayed Annie Tortelli, the wife of Carla's eldest son, on the sitcom Cheers and its short-lived spin-off The Tortellis. In 1988, she played Robin, Baby's cousin, in the television series adaptation of Dirty Dancing. Additional television credits include Enid, a friend of Lila Pembroke, in the first season of Charles in Charge, and Polly Goldenberg-Cohen in the 1989 film Teen Witch.
Ingber later transitioned away from performing and into the fitness world. At age 28 she became an indoor cycling instructor, and she subsequently built a career as a yoga instructor. She has taught yoga to a number of well-known figures, including Jennifer Aniston, Ricki Lake, Brooke Shields, Woody Harrelson, and Helen Hunt. Ingber has also produced instructional yoga DVDs under the title Yogalosophy and authored two books, Yogalosophy: 28 Days to the Ultimate Mind-Body Makeover and Yogalosophy for Inner Strength, both of which appeared on the New York Times bestseller list.
