About
Mal Z. Lawrence, born Manny Miller on September 2, 1932, in New York, New York, was an American comedian and actor whose career spanned several decades. He died on August 30, 2021, survived by his wife, Patty Heinz, whom he had married in 1980.
Lawrence built his early career performing at resorts in the Catskills, where he worked from 1955 through the 2000s. His comedy material was directed largely toward Jewish audiences, and he performed regularly across multiple regions of the country throughout his career.
His Broadway work ran from 1991 to 1997 and included three productions. In 1991, Lawrence was among four comedians featured in Catskills on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater, a show that subsequently moved to tour. He also appeared in the musical Candide and in Laughter on the 23rd Floor.
Beyond the stage, Lawrence worked in film. He appeared in Rounders in 1998 and in Boynton Beach Club in 2005.
