Mabel Burnege

Mabel Burnege (born around 1880 – died July 2, 1972) was an English actress who worked in musical comedies and operettas. A graduate of the Royal College of Music in London, Burnege built her career across both the British stage and international touring circuits.

Her professional career began in earnest with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, with whom she performed in Gilbert and Sullivan productions from 1903 to 1907, including a tour that took the company to South Africa. Her London stage appearances spanned more than a decade and included roles in Bob (1903), The Mountaineers (1909), Fallen Fairies (1909), The Islander (1910), The Chocolate Soldier (1910–1911), Nightbirds (1912), The Laughing Husband (1913), and Within the Law (1913–1914).

Burnege made her sole Broadway appearance in The Merry Countess in 1912, performing as part of an English company. She subsequently toured North America with the production for approximately a year. During that period, a reviewer in 1913 described her as both "an English beauty" and "very clever," and she was noted as the close companion of the show's star, José Collins.

Burnege died in 1972 at approximately 90 years of age. A cigarette card featuring her likeness is held in the George Arents Collection at the New York Public Library.
