About
Lynne Overman (September 19, 1887 – February 19, 1943) was an American actor born in Maryville, Missouri, who built his career first on the stage before transitioning to film work in the 1930s and early 1940s. On screen, he frequently appeared in sidekick roles.
Overman's stage career began in theatre and included work in musical comedies early on. A severe cold followed by a throat operation affected his larynx, leading him to move away from musical work. His Broadway appearances spanned from 1919 to 1932 and encompassed a range of productions. Among his credits were Come-on Charlie (1919), Honey Girl (1920), Just Married (1921), The Gossipy Sex (1927), People Don't Do Such Things (1927), Sunny Days (1928), Button, Button (1929), Dancing Partner (1930), Company's Coming (1931), and both Hot-Cha! and The Budget in 1932. An earlier credit, Fair and Warmer, dates to 1916. Beyond Broadway, Overman also performed in London productions of Just Married, The Hottentot, and Little Accident.
Overman made his film debut in Little Miss Marker in 1934 and continued working in film through the early 1940s. His personal life included a marriage to Emily Helen Drange, which began on November 4, 1922, at a double wedding that also united Paul Whiteman and Vanda Hoff. The marriage lasted until Overman's death. He died in Santa Monica, California on February 19, 1943, five days after suffering his second heart attack in under two months.
