About
Lynn Kellogg (April 2, 1943 – November 12, 2020) was an American actress, singer, and guitarist born in Appleton, Wisconsin, to Harry Burton Kellogg and Maxine (Goekes) Kellogg. She grew up with a sister and two brothers and attended the University of Wisconsin for one year before pursuing a career in entertainment.
Kellogg began her television career in 1964 with an appearance on the series The Edge of Night. Additional television work followed, including a role on The Beverly Hillbillies in 1966, credited as Lynn Ketchum, in which she played Bird Watcher #6. She went on to originate the role of Sheila in the Broadway production of Hair in 1968, a credit that became the defining achievement of her stage career.
Her screen work continued beyond Broadway. In 1969 she appeared in the film Charro!, alongside Elvis Presley, playing the character Marcie. In 1970 she had guest roles on two television series, portraying Gabriella on It Takes a Thief and Roxy on Mission: Impossible. As a singer and guitarist, she also toured with Gordon Lightfoot and other performers.
In February 1972, Kellogg traveled to South Vietnam with Sammy Davis Jr. and a group of other performers to present a USO show for American military troops on several bases. Her career later shifted toward children's television and contemporary Christian music. She developed the educational television series Animals, Animals, Animals, starring Hal Linden, which aired from 1976 to 1981 and received both Emmy and Peabody Awards. Kellogg returned to her hometown of Appleton in 2002, where she performed locally and in church.
Kellogg died on November 12, 2020, at a hospital in St. Louis from complications of COVID-19, which her husband, John Simpers, said she contracted after attending a gathering in Branson, Missouri. She was 77 years old. At the time of her death she was also living with a non-terminal form of leukemia that had affected her vascular system.
