Lydia Bruce, born Lydia Slubowski on January 8, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan, was an American actress who worked across Broadway and television throughout a career spanning several decades. She died on May 7, 2008, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at the age of 77.
Bruce launched her professional career in 1961, the same year she made her Broadway appearance in A Call on Kuprin. That year also saw her take on two roles in the television series Armstrong Circle Theatre, marking an active debut across both stage and screen.
Her most prominent and enduring role came in 1968, when she was cast as Dr. Maggie Powers on the NBC soap opera The Doctors. She held the part for the duration of the series, remaining with the show until it concluded in 1982. Beyond that long-running role, Bruce appeared on Guiding Light and later took on the recurring part of Judge Martha Kershan on Law & Order in 1995.
