About
Beginning as an actor on the New York stage, Luther James went on to write and direct over 50 stage productions from 1956 onward, among them Sophisticated Ladies and James Baldwin's The Amen Corner. He was one of the first minority studio and network executives to integrate the television industry in the 1960s, and from 1968 built a successful career as a television writer and director, with credits including "Police Story," "Courtship of Eddie's Father," "Bill Cosby Show," "Bewitched," and "Julia."
