Luke John Roberts is an English actor born in 1977 in Suffolk. He attended Woodbridge School and Swansea University, where he studied American Studies, before training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, from which he graduated in 2000.

Roberts made his television debut in 2001 in the war drama miniseries Band of Brothers, appearing in the episode titled "Crossroads." Early television work followed with the soap opera Crossroads in 2003 and the Sky One drama series Mile High between 2004 and 2005. His film debut came in 2005 in the thriller Ambition, directed by Nicolas Forzy. In 2011, he appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

His most sustained television role came through the BBC One medical drama Holby City, in which he portrayed Dr. Joseph Byrne from 2006 to 2022. During that same period, he took on a range of additional screen roles. In 2013, he starred as Dracula in the fantasy horror film Dracula: The Dark Prince, directed by Pearry Reginald Teo, alongside Jon Voight, Kelly Wenham, and Ben Robson. That same year, Roberts appeared on Broadway in the production Let It Be. He also secured a recurring role in the first season of The CW's historical drama series Reign in 2013. In 2014, he appeared in the epic historical action film 300: Rise of an Empire, took a supporting role in the police procedural series Taxi Brooklyn, and appeared in the first season of the BBC Two production Wolf Hall, based on the novel about 1500s England.

In 2016, Roberts joined the cast of the Starz adventure series Black Sails as Governor Woodes Rogers, a role he held through 2017. That same year, he appeared as Ser Arthur Dayne in the sixth season of HBO's Game of Thrones. From 2017 to 2019, he led the Global crime drama series Ransom, playing the central character Eric Beaumont across the show's run from January 1, 2017, to May 25, 2019. In 2019, he took on a recurring role as Marcus Kevler in the drama miniseries The Rook.

Roberts appeared in the superhero film The Batman in 2022, as well as in the fantasy horror film Dampyr that same year. In 2023, he starred alongside Ally Maki in the drama film Seagrass. He also joined the cast of Hudson and Rex, playing the character Mark in two episodes prior to season 8 and taking on a major role in season 8 following cast changes. In 2024, Roberts portrayed protagonist James Sunderland in the remake of the horror video game Silent Hill 2. The performance earned him nominations for Best Lead Performer at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards and Best Performance at The Game Awards 2024, as well as a BAFTA nomination.
