About

Lucy Ann Cohu is an English stage, television, and film actress born on 2 October 1968 in Wiltshire. She trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama and, before establishing herself as a professional actress, performed at children's parties. She has stated that had acting not worked out, she would have pursued a career in children's nursing.

Cohu's first professional role following drama school was at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, in a production of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Her television debut came in an episode of Casualty, after which she built an extensive career in British television. Among her earlier television credits is the role of Major Jessica Bailey in the ITV series Soldier Soldier. In 2005, she took on the role of Princess Margaret in Channel 4's semi-fictional biographical drama The Queen's Sister, a performance that earned her nominations for both an Emmy Award and a BAFTA. In November 2008, she won an International Emmy Award for Best Actress for her work in the true-life drama Forgiven. Further television credits include Cape Wrath, in which she played Evelyn Brogan; Torchwood: Children of Earth, in which she portrayed Alice Carter, the daughter of Captain Jack Harkness; Ballet Shoes, in which she appeared as Theo Danes; and the ITV series Maigret, starring Rowan Atkinson, in which she played Madame Maigret.

On film, Cohu has appeared in Gosford Park and Becoming Jane, among other productions. Her theatre work includes a production of An Enemy of the People at the Crucible Theatre beginning in February 2010, where she played Katrina Stockmann alongside Sir Antony Sher, and a subsequent appearance in Arthur Miller's Broken Glass at the Tricycle Theatre. In 2018, she appeared in Speaking in Tongues at the Duke of York's Theatre, opposite John Simm, Ian Hart, and Kerry Fox. She appeared in Dawn King's play The Trials at the Donmar Warehouse in London in August 2022.
