About
Lucille Lee Stewart was an American actress born on December 25, 1889, in Brooklyn, New York, to William H. and Martha Lee Stewart. She received her education in Brooklyn's public schools. Stewart is the elder sister of actress Anita Stewart and was married to actor and director Ralph Ince from 1910 until their divorce in 1925.
Before entering film, Stewart built experience in vaudeville. Her screen career began in 1910 and extended through 1926, with her earliest work consisting of comedies produced by Vitagraph. Throughout her film career she took on a combination of lead and supporting roles, though second leads comprised the majority of her work. A notable milestone came in 1916, when she took on her debut as a leading player in The Destroyers. Her prominence in film diminished during the 1920s, and following her 1925 divorce her public profile receded considerably.
Stewart's connection to the stage extended into the latter part of her career. In 1927 she appeared on Broadway in the musical The Cocoanuts. She died on January 8, 1982, in Hemet, California, at the age of 92.
