About

Louisa Fanny Pyne, later known as Louisa Bodda-Pyne, was an English soprano and opera company manager born on 30 April 1828 in London, United Kingdom. She died on 20 March 1904 at her home in Cambridge Gardens, North Kensington.

Pyne came from a theatrical family. Her father, George Griggs Pyne (1790–1877), was an alto, and her elder sister Susanna Pyne (1821–86) was also a singer. Her uncle, James Kendrick Pyne (1785–1857), was a tenor, and his son and grandson, both bearing the same name, became distinguished organists. Her niece, Blanche Whiffen, pursued a lengthy career in America across both stage and cinema.

During the 1850s, Pyne co-managed the Pyne & Harrison Opera Company alongside tenor William Harrison, with the company touring the Americas. Her Broadway appearances took place between 1854 and 1855 and included productions of The Bohemian Girl, Maritana, Rip Van Winkle, The Beggar's Opera, and The Daughter of St. Mark, among others.

In 1857, Pyne and Harrison established the Pyne and Harrison English Opera Company at the Lyceum Theatre in London. The company subsequently relocated to the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and in December 1858 secured a lease at what is now the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, operating there under the name the Royal English Opera until 1864. The following year, Pyne joined Harrison, W. H. Weiss, and Madame Weiss in forming a new company under Edward Tyrrel Smith at Astley's Theatre Royal.

On 12 October 1868, Pyne married the singer Frank H. Bodda. He died on 14 March 1892 at the age of 69.
