About

Lorraine Frost (September 13, 1892 – February 10, 1983) was an American actress who worked in both theater and silent film. Born into a family with theatrical inclinations, she had a sister, Leila Frost, who was also a child actress. The two girls toured together in their youth, accompanied by their mother, who served as their governess during those travels.

Frost began her theatrical career around 1903 at approximately ten years of age and was regarded as a child prodigy. Her debut role was Nora in a stage adaptation of A Little Princess. Around 1905 she began working with Robert Mantell, participating in a number of Shakespeare productions under his direction. At sixteen she took on the role of Ophelia in Hamlet, serving as understudy to Marie Booth Russell. She briefly stepped away from the stage at age fifteen to pursue studies in New York before resuming her career.

Her Broadway work spanned from 1905 to 1918 and included productions such as The Senator Keeps House, The Unknown Purple, Johnny Get Your Gun, The Angel in the House, and A Fool of Fortune, among others.

Frost made her film debut in 1913 in the short silent film The Rivals, playing Lydia Languish. She went on to appear in The Light of Happiness (1916), God's Half Acre (1916), The Inner Ring (1919), Sinners (1920), The Deep Purple (1920), The Truth About Husbands (1920), and One of the Family (1926). She was particularly noted for her performances in The Light of Happiness, Sinners, and The Truth About Husbands. Following her marriage to director Kenneth Webb, she appeared in several of his film productions.

Frost continued to reside in Manhattan throughout her life.
