About
Lorraine Feather, born Billie Jane Lee Lorraine Feather on September 10, 1948, is an American singer, lyricist, and songwriter. A Manhattan native, she is the daughter of jazz writer Leonard Feather and his wife Jane, who had worked as a big band singer. Her given names carry significant musical heritage: she was named for her godmother Billie Holiday, for her mother's former roommate Peggy Lee, and for the song "Sweet Lorraine."
Feather made her Broadway debut in 1971, appearing in Jesus Christ Superstar. Her stage career preceded a long and prolific recording life that would establish her as a notable figure in jazz vocals and songwriting.
Her discography spans four decades, beginning with Joanne Grauer Introducing Lorraine Feather on MPS in 1978 and Sweet Lorraine on Concord Jazz that same year.
