About
Lisle Leigh Fitzgerald was an American actress born on July 4, 1869, in Utah, into a Latter Day Saint family. Her mother died while Leigh was still young, and she was subsequently raised by her aunt, Sara Alexander, who was herself a performer. That early exposure to the theatrical world shaped her path, and Leigh began performing as a child in 1874.
Leigh built her stage career over several decades, appearing on Broadway from 1888 to 1924. Her Broadway credits include The Busybody, Red Rust, and The Fugitive. She was also a performer with the Edward Albee Stock Company, which contributed to her extensive theatrical experience.
In addition to her stage work, Leigh appeared in a number of films. Her screen credits include Caprice of the Mountains (1916), in which she played Maria Baker; The Forbidden Path (1918), in which she portrayed Mrs. Byrne; The American Way (1919); and The Custard Cup (1923), in which she took the role of Mrs. Percy. The California Photo Engraving Co. produced a published image of her during her career.
Leigh died of heart disease on May 19, 1927, at the age of 57.
