About
Lisa Paulette Michelson (March 31, 1958 – September 14, 1991) was an American actress and voice actress whose work spanned Broadway, television, and animation dubbing. Born in 1958, she built a career across multiple performance disciplines before her death in a car accident in Los Angeles, California at the age of 33.
Michelson appeared on Broadway in 1988 in Les Misérables. That same year, her voice work gained wider recognition through the Streamline Pictures English-language dub of the Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro, in which she portrayed Satsuki Kusakabe. She subsequently voiced the title character Kiki in the Streamline dub of Kiki's Delivery Service. These two roles became the performances most closely associated with her name.
Her animation work extended beyond the Ghibli productions. She voiced Rasa in The World of the Talisman, Addy in Zillion, and the Android Girl in the "Presence" segment of the anthology film Robot Carnival. She also contributed additional voices to the Fist of the North Star Movie. In television animation, she appeared in multiple episodes of Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics for Saban Entertainment, voicing Nana Doris in the Snow White episode, Josephine in Bluebeard, and Princess Alea in The Coat of Many Colors. Her live-action television credits include a guest appearance on Mama's Family on November 25, 1989, in the episode "Bubba's House Band," where she played a character named Snake.
Michelson was sometimes credited under the names Lisa Michaelson or Lisa Snegoff, the latter reflecting her marriage to actor Gregory Snegoff. Her earliest screen credit was a 16mm classroom film titled The Date, produced in 1977 by The Little Red Filmhouse Pictures. Following her death, the American localization of Robot Carnival was dedicated to her in its end credits.
