About
Lisa Joyce is an American actress who has worked across theater, film, and television. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and pursued her training at The Theatre School at DePaul University and the Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
Joyce's stage career brought her to Broadway between 2006 and 2010, where her credits included productions of Doubt and La Bête. Her film work includes the 2012 production A Master Builder, in which she portrayed Hilde Wangel. That performance earned her a Drama Desk Award nomination.
On television, Joyce took on a lead role in the sitcom Billy & Billie before becoming recognized for her portrayal of Frieda in the comedy-drama series Insecure. She had also been attached to the HBO project Max, created by Lena Dunham, in which she was originally cast in the lead role. Her commitments to Insecure ultimately led to her being replaced in that role by Zoe Kazan.
Joyce currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her boyfriend and cat.
