Linwood Winder McCarthy, known professionally as Lin McCarthy, was an American actor born on February 23, 1918, in Norfolk, Virginia. He worked across theatre, film, and television over the course of a career spanning several decades before retiring in 1984. He died on November 23, 2002, in Beverly Hills, California, from pneumonia, at the age of 84.

Following his military service during World War II, McCarthy pursued formal actor training at Geller's Theatre Workshop. His stage career began in 1952 with the Broadway production of The Chase, and he continued performing on Broadway through 1957, with credits that also included A Clearing in the Woods.

McCarthy built an extensive television résumé through guest appearances on a wide range of programs. Among the series in which he appeared were Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, Rawhide, Wagon Train, Tales of Wells Fargo, and The Virginian. He also guest-starred on Boris Karloff's Thriller, The Fugitive, Mission: Impossible, The Man and the Challenge, 12 O'Clock High, and Quincy, M.E. Additional television credits included Robert Montgomery Presents, Studio One in Hollywood, Kraft Television Theatre, New Comedy Showcase, Lou Grant, and The Waltons.

His film work included roles in Yellowneck, The D.I., Face of a Fugitive, The Execution of Private Slovik, Tail Gunner Joe, and The Day After.
