Lew Gallo

Lewis D. Gallo (June 12, 1928 – June 11, 2000) was an American character actor and producer born in Mount Kisco, New York. Before pursuing a career in entertainment, Gallo served as an Army infantryman during the Korean War.

Gallo made his Broadway appearance in 1955 in the comedy Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?, establishing an early foothold in the performing arts before transitioning primarily to screen work. He became most widely recognized for his recurring role as Maj. Joseph Cobb on the ABC World War II drama series Twelve O'Clock High, which aired in the 1960s. His television work extended across numerous other series of the era, including Rawhide, Dr. Kildare, Straightway, Lost in Space, The F.B.I., Gunsmoke, The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, Tales of Wells Fargo, Combat!, and Get Smart.

In addition to his television appearances, Gallo had roles in several theatrical films, among them Ocean's 11, PT 109, and Pork Chop Hill. He also worked on the production side of the industry, serving as a producer on the series That Girl, Love, American Style, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, and The New Mike Hammer.

Gallo died on June 11, 2000, in Los Angeles, California, one day before what would have been his 72nd birthday. He was survived by his wife of 42 years, television producer Lillian Gallo, and their two children, Mary Ann and Tom.
