About
Leslie Easterbrook is an American actress and producer who built a career spanning Broadway, film, and television. She was adopted at nine months old and raised in Arcadia, Nebraska by Carl and Helen Easterbrook, her adoptive father a music professor and her mother an English teacher, both at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Easterbrook graduated from Kearney High School and went on to attend Stephens College. Though the database lists her origin as Los Angeles, California, her upbringing was rooted in Nebraska.
Easterbrook's Broadway career ran from 1973 to 1979 and included three productions: the play California Suite, the musical On the Twentieth Century, and the play Oliver Oliver. Her performance of the National Anthem at Super Bowl XVII led to starring roles in musicals on Broadway and in productions across the country.
On television, Easterbrook joined Laverne & Shirley in 1980, beginning with season six, playing Rhonda Lee. The character was introduced as part of the show's relocation from Milwaukee to Burbank, California. During that period she also appeared as a panelist on Match Game, taped on September 27, 1981. Her television work extended across more than 300 episodes and included appearances on Ryan's Hope as Devlin Kowalski, Murder She Wrote, Diagnosis: Murder, Matlock, Hunter, Baywatch, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, and The Dukes of Hazzard. Her voice work appeared in both Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series.
In film, Easterbrook is perhaps best known for portraying Debbie Callahan across the Police Academy franchise, a role she described as unlike anything she had previously played. She recorded a song for the soundtrack of Police Academy: Mission to Moscow. In 2005, she replaced Karen Black as Mother Firefly in Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects, the sequel to the 2003 film House of 1000 Corpses. She appeared in Zombie's 2007 Halloween remake as security guard Patty Frost, played Betty in the 2008 thriller House, and starred in The Afflicted in 2010. Across her film career she appeared in approximately a dozen feature productions.
Easterbrook was married to screenwriter Dan Wilcox until his death in 2024. She serves on the board of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, is a member of the National Rifle Association, and has served on the board of directors of the California Rifle and Pistol Association. She also supports a number of children's charities and produced a video titled Real Beginner's Guide to the Shotgun Sports, the first in a series aimed at preparing nonshooters for their first shooting experience.
