About
Leonore Harris (July 28, 1879 – September 27, 1953) was an American actress born in New York, New York, whose career spanned both the stage and silent film. She worked across Broadway and motion pictures, with her professional activity on Broadway documented from 1900 through 1946.
Harris built her reputation primarily on the stage, appearing in a range of productions over more than four decades. Her Broadway credits included the comedy Present Laughter, as well as the plays Dodsworth, Wooden Kimono, The Creaking Chair, and The Far Cry, among others. The breadth of her stage career reflected a sustained commitment to theatrical work that extended well into the mid-twentieth century.
In addition to her stage work, Harris appeared in a number of silent films during the 1910s and early 1920s. Her screen credits include Betty of Greystone (1916), Human Driftwood (1916), The Decoy (1916), Friday the 13th (1916), The Iron Heart (1917), and To-Day (1917). The Decoy was later rereleased in 1922 under the title The Faithless Sex. Prints of The Decoy are held by the Library of Congress and the BFI National Film and Television Archive.
Earlier in her life, Harris was among a number of young actresses whose images appeared on cigarette packages produced by Philip Morris. She was also photographed alongside actress Carroll McComas aboard the ocean liner RMS Berengaria. Harris died on September 27, 1953, and is interred at Mount Hebron Cemetery.
