About

Leonard John Crofoot, born September 20, 1948, in Utica, New York, is an actor, singer, dancer, writer, and choreographer whose Broadway career spans from 1968 to 1985. His stage work encompasses original productions and replacement roles across more than a decade of New York theater.

Crofoot made his Broadway debut in The Happy Time in 1968, followed by Come Summer in 1969. He subsequently appeared in Gigi in 1973, joined American Dance Machine as a replacement in 1978, and rounded out his Broadway credits with Grind in 1985. His most celebrated stage role came in Barnum in 1980, where he played Tom Thumb, a performance that earned him the Drama League Critics Award. He can be heard on the original cast recording of Barnum singing "Bigger Isn't Better," and his work is also featured on the Playbill compilation CD Broadway Scene Stealers: The Men. In addition to his Broadway appearances, Crofoot toured with Carol Channing in Hello, Dolly! in 1978, performing the role of Barnaby, and played Benjamin in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat during its American debut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The production Mayor also appears among his Broadway credits.

Beyond the stage, Crofoot wrote and performed the one-person show Nijinsky Speaks from 1996 to 2006. The show originated at the Tuacahn Center in Utah before moving to Los Angeles, where it played at the Getty Center. It subsequently ran Off-Broadway at the Harold Clurman Theatre in New York and toured theaters and universities across the country. Nijinsky Speaks received five Lester Horton Award nominations, was a runner-up for best new play at the 8th Annual Ticket Holder Awards, and was supported by the California Arts Council Performing Arts Touring and Presenting Program from 2001 to 2003.

Crofoot has made three appearances in the Star Trek franchise. On Star Trek: The Next Generation, he played Trent in the episode "Angel One" in 1988 and portrayed an asexual android in full-body makeup in "The Offspring" in 1990. He also appeared in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Virtuoso." His other television credits include CSI, Six Feet Under, Saved by the Bell, A.N.T. Farm, and Two and a Half Men, as well as a Jenny Craig commercial with Kirstie Alley and a stunt on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He danced on the 50th and 67th Academy Awards ceremonies and performed a recreation of Donald O'Connor's famous flip at the 69th Academy Awards. His film work includes A Reflection of Fear, Echoes, Two Shades of Blue, The Man Who Wasn't There, and The Singing Detective in 2003.

From 2006 to 2010, Crofoot performed with The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies at the historic Plaza Theatre in downtown Palm Springs, California. He is among the dancers interviewed in the book The Dancer Within: Intimate Conversations with Great Dancers. Crofoot resides in Culver City with his companion Robin Palanker and their dog, Zou Zou.
