About
Lee Kohlmar (February 27, 1873 – May 14, 1946) was a German-born actor and director who built a career spanning both stage and screen. Born in Fürth, Germany, he went on to work extensively in American theater and film before his death in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack.
Kohlmar's Broadway career extended from 1911 to 1931, during which he appeared in a range of productions across both dramatic and musical genres. His stage credits included the plays She Means Business, Brass Buttons, Sam Abramovitch, and My Country, as well as the musical June Days, among other productions.
Alongside his theatrical work, Kohlmar maintained a prolific presence in film. He appeared in more than 50 films between 1916 and 1941, and also worked behind the camera, directing nine films between 1916 and 1921. His son, Fred Kohlmar, also pursued a career in the film industry.
