About
Arthur Lee Kinsolving Jr. was born on August 30, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Rev. Arthur Lee Kinsolving, who was then serving as rector of Trinity Church in Boston. When his father later became rector of St. James' Episcopal Church, the family relocated to New York City. Kinsolving went on to work as an actor in theater, film, and television before his death on December 4, 1974, in Palm Beach, Florida, at age 36, from a sudden respiratory illness.
Kinsolving launched his acting career on Broadway, appearing in 1958 in the drama Winesburg, Ohio. His film work brought him significant recognition when he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 18th Golden Globe Awards in 1960, for his portrayal of Sammy Goldenbaum in The Dark at the Top of the Stairs.
Television occupied a substantial portion of his career, with appearances on nearly two dozen prominent series during the 1950s and 1960s. In 1959, he played Tim Elder, the son of an alcoholic father portrayed by Dabbs Greer, in the episode "Boomerang" of The Rifleman. That same year he appeared in the Have Gun – Will Travel episode "The Sons of Aaron Murdock" as Jammie Murdock. In 1964, he took on the role of an alien who falls in love with a human character played by Shelley Fabares in the Twilight Zone episode "Black Leather Jackets." Also in 1964, he guest starred on Gunsmoke in the episode "The Other Half," playing identical twin brothers of opposing moral character, and appeared on Route 66 in "Follow the White Dove with the Broken Wing" as a disturbed teenager who accidentally kills his only friend.
In 1969, Kinsolving married model Lillian B. Crawford. The marriage ended in divorce in April 1972.
