Langhorne Burton was a British actor born on December 25, 1880, who built a career spanning both stage and screen before his death on December 6, 1949. His work encompassed Broadway productions in the United States as well as an extensive body of film work in Britain.
Burton's Broadway career ran from 1908 to 1922 and included appearances in several productions. Among his stage credits were Dolly Jordan, The Awakening, Carmen, Adrienne Lecouveur, and The Enigma.
Alongside his stage work, Burton appeared in a substantial number of British films beginning in 1914. His early screen credits that year included Liberty Hall, The King's Minister, Bootle's Baby, The Difficult Way, and The Treasure of Heaven followed in 1916. He continued working steadily through the late 1910s in films such as The Profligate, Tom Jones, Auld Robin Gray, and God and the Man, in which he played a character named Christiansen. He also appeared as John Melsher in the 1917 production Daddy.
Burton's film output was particularly prolific around 1920, when he appeared in Little Dorrit, The Children of Gibeon, Two Little Wooden Shoes, A Man's Shadow, By Berwin Banks, The Temptress, At the Villa Rose, and The Amateur Gentleman, in which he took the role of Barnabas Barty. In 1921 he appeared in Appearances as Sir William Rutherford, as well as in Moth and Rust and The Bonnie Brier Bush, where he portrayed John Carmichael.
Burton's screen career extended into the latter half of the 1920s and beyond, with roles in Who Is the Man, in which he played Albert Arnault, Marriage License in 1926, The City of a Thousand Delights in 1927, and Cross Roads in 1930.
