About

Kyle William Soller is an American actor born on July 1, 1983, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. He attended Mount Vernon High School before enrolling at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he studied art history. During his third year, a semester abroad at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London led to a full offer of admission. Soller left William & Mary, relocated to London, and completed his training at RADA, earning a BA in Acting in 2008. He is married to actress Phoebe Fox, whom he met during his time at the academy, and the couple resides in London.

Soller's theatrical career gained significant momentum in 2011, when he appeared in three productions in quick succession: The Glass Menagerie and The Government Inspector, both at the Young Vic, and The Faith Machine at the Royal Court Theatre. Those performances earned him the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Outstanding Newcomer, the first of three Evening Standard Theatre Awards he would receive over the course of his career.

His Broadway work spans 2012 to 2019. In 2012, he appeared in the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Cyrano de Bergerac, playing Christian at the American Airlines Theatre. That same year he also starred in the West End production of Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night at the Apollo Theatre, alongside David Suchet, Laurie Metcalf, and Trevor White. His most celebrated stage role came with The Inheritance, which was first staged at the Young Vic in 2018 before transferring to Broadway in 2019. The performance earned him the 2019 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor as well as a 2020 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Play.

On screen, Soller has worked across film and television in both the United Kingdom and the United States. His film appearances include Anna Karenina in 2012 and Marrowbone in 2017. His television credits include the BBC Three comedy Bad Education, in which he played a new teacher named Mr. Schwimer, and the BBC One drama Poldark, where he appeared as Francis, Ross Poldark's cousin, between 2015 and 2016. That same period saw him take the role of Clifford in The Hollow Crown and appear as Gerald Croft in the BBC adaptation of An Inspector Calls. He also starred as Scotty, a character described as an expert on apocalypses, in the Sky 1 comedy drama You, Me and the Apocalypse. More recently, he appeared in the Disney+ series Andor from 2022 to 2025 and played Detective Inspector Hillinghead, a nineteenth-century detective, in the 2023 Netflix series Bodies.
