About
Walter Kohl Sudduth was born on August 8, 1974, in Granada Hills, Los Angeles, California, the younger of two brothers, the elder being actor Skipp Sudduth. The family relocated to Circleville, Ohio, where Sudduth was raised. During his high school years he performed in productions of Cheaper by the Dozen and Flowers for Algernon. He went on to attend Ohio University, where he shifted his focus to music, serving as guitarist and vocalist for a punk rock band called Edison that performed across the American Midwest. He earned a BA in English from Ohio University in 1995.
Following his graduation, Sudduth moved to New York City to pursue acting professionally, sharpening his comedic skills through appearances at improv clubs and venues including the Red Room. His screen debut came in 1997 with director John Turturro's Illuminata, in which he played a concubine opposite Christopher Walken. The following year he appeared in three projects: the television series All My Children as Rick, Sex and the City as Jon, and the films 54 as Rhett and Rounders as Wagner, the latter alongside Edward Norton and Matt Damon. In 1999 he landed a role in Bowfinger, playing Slater opposite Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, and Heather Graham, and also appeared in a single episode of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit as Riley Couger. In 2000, he took on the role of Mark in the teen comedy Road Trip and appeared as Joe in the Masterpiece Theater production Cora Unashamed, based on a Langston Hughes short story. That same period saw him appear in 17 episodes of the television series Grosse Pointe, playing the dual roles of Quentin King and Stone Anders.
In 2003, Sudduth appeared on Broadway in Take Me Out. The production marked his credited Broadway debut and added a stage dimension to a career that had been built primarily in film and television.
Sudduth's most sustained and widely recognized role came with the Jesse Stone franchise of television films, in which he co-stars opposite Tom Selleck as Luther "Suitcase" Simpson. He first played the character in Stone Cold in 2005 and reprised the role across eight additional films through Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise in 2015, for a total of nine appearances in the series. Other television credits during this period include a single episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent in 2006 as Zach and a single episode of Blue Bloods in 2015 as Sam Holbrooke. His film work includes a role as a hotel clerk in The Banger Sisters in 2002 and a police officer in The Notorious Bettie Page in 2005.
Outside of acting, Sudduth plays bass in his brother Skipp's rock band Minus Ted. He divides his time between New York City and Los Angeles and pursues interests that include rock climbing and basketball.
