About
Kimberly Jean Brown is an American actress born on November 16, 1984, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She began her career at age five and, by age eleven, had worked as a child model with Ford Models, earned a Daytime Emmy nomination, and performed in multiple Broadway productions.
Brown's stage career included two Broadway productions between 1992 and 1994: Four Baboons Adoring the Sun and the musical Show Boat. Her television career gained early momentum through her portrayal of Marah Lewis on the CBS soap opera Guiding Light, a role she held from 1993 to 1998 and reprised in 2006. That performance earned her a nomination for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series.
At thirteen, Brown was cast as Marnie Piper in the Disney Channel Original Movie Halloweentown, which aired on October 17, 1998. The character is a young witch who seeks to learn magic from her grandmother Aggie, played by Debbie Reynolds. Brown auditioned twice before being cast, and the film's strong reception led Disney Channel to produce three sequels, in two of which Brown reprised the role. She was replaced by Sara Paxton in the fourth installment, Return to Halloweentown, a development Brown described as confusing and disappointing. Brown also appeared in the 2000 Disney Channel film Quints.
In 1999, Brown co-starred with Janet McTeer in the comedy-drama film Tumbleweeds, for which she won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. She went on to star as Annie Wheaton in the Stephen King-written ABC horror miniseries Rose Red in 2002, and appeared in Bringing Down the House in 2003, Big Bad Wolf in 2006, and Friendship! in 2010. In May 2021, it was announced she had joined the cast of General Hospital.
Brown also worked as a voice actress, contributing to commercials, the film A Bug's Life, and the English dub of Vampire Princess Miyu. In 2016, she co-authored a Halloween-themed children's book, Poppin's Pumpkin Patch Parade, with Diane Yslas, and operates an Etsy shop called CraftilyCreative, which sells Halloweentown-themed merchandise among other items.
Brown received a Bachelor of Science degree in business, which she revealed in 2018. She has celiac disease, disclosed in 2019. In 2016, she reconnected with Halloweentown II co-star Daniel Kountz, and the two began dating. Brown announced their engagement in June 2022, and the couple married in April 2024.
