About

Kimberly Jayne Raver was born on March 15, 1969, in New York City, where she was raised by her mother, who was born in Germany. Raver is fluent in French and German, the latter acquired during childhood from her mother. She attended Boston University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama, and later studied theater in New York under teacher and mentor Wynn Handman.

Raver began performing at an early age, appearing on Sesame Street in 1975 at age six and remaining with the show for three years. As her adult career took shape, she worked in commercials for Visa and Jeep before transitioning to stage and screen. Her Broadway debut came in 1995 in Blue Holiday, a production in which she co-starred with Laura Linney and Tony Goldwyn. Around the same period, she appeared in the feature film City Hall alongside Al Pacino and took part in a Williamstown Theatre Festival production called The Glimmer Brothers, written by Warren Leight and co-starring John Spencer and David Schwimmer.

Raver became widely recognized through a series of prominent television roles. She played Kim Zambrano on the drama Third Watch before being cast as Audrey Raines on 24, a role she held as a series regular for two seasons. She reprised the character in the show's sixth season, and returned to the role again in 2014 for the twelve-episode limited series 24: Live Another Day, in which the character was identified as Audrey Boudreau. In the fall of 2006, she starred in the ABC series The Nine, which was cancelled despite strong critical reception. She subsequently starred as Nico Reilly, editor-in-chief of Bonfire magazine, in NBC's Lipstick Jungle, an adaptation of the Candace Bushnell novel that ran for twenty episodes between February 2008 and January 2009.

In 2009, Raver joined the sixth season of Grey's Anatomy in a recurring capacity, portraying cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Teddy Altman. She made her on-screen debut in the role on November 12 of that year, and on January 4, 2010, it was announced she had become a series regular. She remained with the show for three seasons before departing in 2012. Raver returned to Grey's Anatomy for its fourteenth season in 2017 and was announced as a series regular again beginning with the fifteenth season in 2018.

In addition to her Grey's Anatomy work, Raver had a guest appearance on the eleventh-season premiere of Bones in 2015, recurred on the fifth season of Ray Donovan in 2017, and was cast in the recurring role of Dr. Andrea Frost on the second season of the ABC political drama Designated Survivor that same year.

Raver has been married to director and writer Manuel Boyer since 2000. They have two sons together.
