Kevin Shinick is an American actor, writer, producer, director, and comic book creator born on March 19, 1969, in Merrick, New York, a suburb on Long Island. He attended Sanford H. Calhoun High School before enrolling at Hofstra University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in both theatre and communication. While still a student, he appeared as a contestant on the game show Jackpot during its first week of broadcast in September 1989.
Shinick's Broadway career spanned from 1992 to 1995 and began approximately one year after his graduation from Hofstra, when he was cast in Tony Randall's production of The Seagull alongside Ethan Hawke, Laura Linney, Tyne Daly, Jon Voight, and Tony Roberts. Additional Broadway credits followed, including Night Must Fall with Matthew Broderick, The School for Scandal with Randall, The Inspector General with Lainie Kazan, and the Tony-nominated productions of Timon of Athens and Saint Joan. In 2002, Shinick wrote and directed Spider-Man Live!, a Broadway-style stage adaptation of Spider-Man that performed at large venues including Radio City Music Hall. The production toured 40 cities across the United States and holds the distinction of being the first full-length live-action stage show based on the character.
On television, Shinick served as host and portrayed the ACME Time Net Squadron Leader on the PBS series Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego? beginning in 1996, a role that extended to merchandise including trading cards and action figures. Starting in 2007, he joined the writing staff of the Adult Swim stop-motion series Robot Chicken, eventually expanding his role to include directing and producing. His contributions to that series earned him an Emmy Award. In 2010, he co-created the animated sketch series Mad with Mark Marek, serving additionally as producer and writer; the show ran for four seasons before concluding in December 2013, and his work on it earned him an Emmy nomination. From 2017 to 2018, Shinick served as showrunner and supervising producer on the Disney XD series Spider-Man, and also in 2017 he joined the writing staff of the Netflix comedy series Disjointed, created by Chuck Lorre and David Javerbaum and starring Kathy Bates. In March 2024, he was announced to portray Dick Clark in the biographical musical drama Michael.
As a screen actor, Shinick has guest starred on Grimm, Masters of Sex, Major Crimes, Trust Me, Rizzoli and Isles, Without a Trace, and Monday Mornings. He also provided the voice of Bruce Banner in Avengers Assemble, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Spider-Man. In 2004, he wrote, directed, and starred in the romantic comedy film It's About Time.
Shinick has been an active comic book writer since 2009, contributing to both Marvel Comics and DC Comics. His DC work includes the annual Batman 80-Page Giant and Joker's Asylum II: Clayface, while his Marvel credits encompass Avenging Spider-Man, Superior Carnage, Superior Spider-Man Team-Up, and AXIS: Hobgoblin. In 2019, he expanded into prose fiction with the young-adult novel Force Collector, published as part of the Journey to Star Wars series.
