About

Kevin Paul Anderson, born January 13, 1960, is an American actor, singer, and drummer who has worked extensively in theater, film, and television. One of five children, he trained at the Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University in Chicago, where he studied for three years.

Anderson is a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, whose alumni also include John Malkovich, Gary Sinise, and Laurie Metcalf. His stage work earned him a Theatre World Award and a Joseph Jefferson Award for his performance in Lyle Kessler's Orphans, a role he subsequently reprised in the 1987 film adaptation. In 1989, he originated the dual roles of The Balladeer and Lee Harvey Oswald in the staged reading of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins. Four years later, he created the role of Joe Gillis in the original London production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard, performing opposite Patti LuPone, who originated the role of Norma Desmond.

His Broadway credits include the 1995 production of Master Class. Anderson also appeared on Broadway in the Manhattan Theatre Club production of Come Back, Little Sheba, playing Doc from January 24, 2008, through March 16, 2008. His performance in the revival of Death of a Salesman brought him the 1999 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play, as well as a Tony Award nomination.

Beyond Broadway, Anderson starred as Andy Dufresne in the stage adaptation of The Shawshank Redemption, which premiered at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin in May 2009 before transferring to the Wyndham's Theatre in London, where it ran from September 4 to November 29, 2009. He also appeared in A Guide for the Perplexed at the Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago during July and August of 2010.

Anderson's film career includes a role as the brother of Richard Gere's character in the 1988 film Miles from Home, and a starring role alongside Julia Roberts in the 1991 film Sleeping with the Enemy. He appeared again with Roberts in the 2006 version of Charlotte's Web, playing Mr. Arable while Roberts voiced the title character. On television, he portrayed a self-doubting priest in the 1997 series Nothing Sacred, a performance that earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He also played the lead role in the 1999 two-part miniseries The Hunt for the Unicorn Killer, portraying fugitive Ira Einhorn.

In 1994, Anderson was struck by a car during a cross-country motorcycle trip, sustaining a broken leg, a broken arm, and additional health complications including an embolism. The accident kept him out of work for a year and required several years of rehabilitation.
