About

Kevin O'Morrison (May 25, 1916 – December 11, 2016) was an American actor and playwright born in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Illinois Military School at the age of 14 and immediately entered the workforce, holding a range of jobs that included office boy, copy reader, display designer, lumberjack, stevedore, and truck driver. His time as an usher at the St. Louis Theater opened a path into vaudeville and set the course of his professional life in performance.

O'Morrison began his association with the Mercury Theatre in New York in 1937, appearing in productions of Danton's Death, Julius Caesar, and Shoemaker's Holiday. During his three years of military service in World War II, he took on a lead role in Winged Victory, both touring with the stage production and appearing in the film adaptation. His work as a stage, radio, television, and film actor continued through the 1940s and beyond.

On television, O'Morrison played the lead in the series Charlie Wild, Private Detective for its first seven episodes beginning in 1950. The series aired successively on CBS, ABC, and DuMont. His film credits included Dear Ruth, Never Fear, The Set-Up, The Golden Gloves Story, and, in 1993, Sleepless in Seattle, in which he portrayed Cliff Reed alongside Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

His Broadway career included an appearance in 1966 in The Rose Tattoo. Beginning in the 1960s, O'Morrison also turned to playwriting, authoring works that included A Party For Lovers and The Long War.

O'Morrison died on December 11, 2016, in Lynnwood, Washington, at the age of 100, survived by his wife, Linda.
